I am not sure who enjoys mentoring more, the students or me. Whether coordinating reading programs or speaking at schools, mentoring is a great way to expand your universe. I am Craig Anthony Nicholas, and I have been a mentor creating dialogue through reading at Lanier Middle School as part of the Houston Real Men Read Program. I am now part of the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Program where Jesus is my succession plan. I have showed him how to play chess and build a kite. We've learned some spanish, and I've helped him with homework in his favorite subject, math. I've shared in his academic success, helped to develop his interest in architecture, and we talk about whatever is going on. Nikki Jensen is our program specialist, and we are grateful to her for hosting a pizza party for the mentors and mentees at Pilgrim Academy. The mentees really enjoyed the recognition and fellowship. Some of Jesus's buddies joined us to fly a kite I brought name Albert. I showed them how to send a message up the line to the kite telling Albert to look out for rain. They enjoyed the fish story I shared too. We all need someone who can act as our mirror, to help us see things we do not otherwise see, coach us to do more than we might otherwise do, and hold us accountable to higher purposes for our life.
